The seminar was a good opportunity to prepare the visits 2010/11 by offering the policy background on topics related to social inclusion. It brought together 117 organisers and participants of the study visits, experts on the themes and representatives of the national agencies. The participants learnt how to approach the content of study visits on social inclusion and how to put this content into an effective organisational frame. They discussed examples of policies and practices on the following topics:

  • ensuring equal opportunities for disadvantaged students;
  • education for active citizenship and social integration of migrants and minorities;
  • integration of young people and adults at risk of social exclusion into the labour market.

The participants were provided with guidance on how to organise good quality study visits, e.g. on tools and guidelines, such as the handbook for organisers, the management information system - Olive, Cedefop’s online sources, publications and networks. They discussed and explored effective and creative ways of preparing, implementing, promoting the study visit and disseminating its results. They also worked together in small groups and created draft programmes for a visit, lists of frequently asked questions (FAQ) and answers for dealing with unexpected situations during the visit and promotion and dissemination plans for a study visit.
