How can education and training systems better identify learners at risk, prevent early leaving and create learning environments where everyone feels included, supported and able to succeed?

This webinar will bring together Cedefop and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Culture and Sport (DG EAC) to explore how policy and practice can move from responding to disengagement towards building more inclusive, equitable and resilient education and training systems.

Cedefop will launch its new policy brief, From risk to resilience: Policy guidelines for supporting learners at risk and early leavers from vocational education and training. The publication drawing from Cedefop’s VET toolkit for tackling early leaving looks at early leaving not as a single event, but as a process shaped by different risk and disengagement factors. It presents 20 intervention approaches covering system capacity, early identification, targeted support and re-engagement, and calls for a shift towards systems that can recognise disengagement early, respond to learners’ different needs and keep pathways to learning open.

The European Commission’s DG EAC will present its new thematic work on Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing, highlighting the importance of removing barriers, responding to diverse learner needs and creating learning environments where learners feel valued, supported and able to reach their full potential. The topic also underlines the links between inclusion, wellbeing, engagement and learning outcomes.

Participants will also be introduced to the European School Education Platform’s Self-assessment tool on Inclusion and Wellbeing. The tool supports teachers and school leaders in reflecting on their inclusion policies and practices. Through a series of questions across six areas, it provides a personalised report highlighting strengths, areas for development and relevant resources and recommendations.

The webinar will offer an opportunity to connect these two complementary perspectives: preventing early leaving and supporting learners at risk, while at the same time strengthening equity, inclusion, belonging and wellbeing across education and training.
