The European Commission’s recent Skills Portability Initiative places renewed emphasis on making qualifications and their learning outcomes easier to understand, compare, verify and recognise across borders.

This webinar brings together policymakers, qualifications and recognition bodies, education and training providers, and labour market stakeholders to reflect on how accessible and reliable information, connected digital infrastructure and effective recognition arrangements can make qualifications and skills more portable and support people’s learning and employment pathways.

The focus will be on developments in digital tools, focusing on qualifications databases and digital credentials across education and training systems. Discussions will provide insights on national developments and how these tools can enhance transparency, trust and comparability, reflecting on what is needed to improve interoperability between systems and encourage their wider use.

The event will also address the recognition and validation of foreign qualifications, examining how these processes are organised to support access to further learning and employment. Challenges in aligning different recognition and validation purposes, arrangements and outcomes will also be discussed.

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the implications of the Skills Portability Initiative and exchange perspectives on how digital tools and recognition arrangements can better support cross-border mobility.

The discussions will draw on recent Cedefop research, including data collected through its ReferNet network and findings from the following publications:
