Cedefop’s VET toolkit for tackling early leaving from education and training was presented on 28 January 2021 at the webinar 'VET in Times of Lockdown and Pandemic' organised by the Assembly of European Regions (AER).

The event gathered regional stakeholders across Europe offering the opportunity for mutual learning and exchange around topics identified by AER members with special regards to regional policies and practices aimed at making young people more aware of the opportunities related to Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Cedefop’s expert Irene Psifidou discussed the relevance of the toolkit for the time of the pandemic and presented the main findings of the COVID-19 related paper on the digital gap for learners at risk drawing from Cedefop’s ambassadors for tackling early leaving.

Dr Psifidou highlighted that during the pandemic and extended school closures all learners became “learners at risk”, calling all actors involved to closely monitor their engagement to learning and support them to access quality (distance) education and training to prevent them from disconnecting. Cedefop’s VET toolkit for tackling early leaving provides policy makers and VET providers with practical tools and guidelines to effectively support learners. Evaluating the impact of COVID-19 on learners at risk and drop-out rates is of vital importance. Find out here how you may detect early learners at risk and monitor early leavers.
