As part of its strategic commitment to lifelong learning and professional development, the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) launched the Centre for Lifelong Learning in 2025. The initiative was presented during a university event in May 2025, where CUT’s Rector, Professor Panayiotis Zaphiris, highlighted lifelong learning as a central pillar of the University’s strategic vision. The launch of the Centre marks a targeted step in strengthening the CUT’s role in adult education.
The Centre for Lifelong Learning at CUT aims to empower individuals and organisations through innovative, high-quality educational programmes aligned with labour market needs. Drawing on the CUT’s academic expertise, it designs programmes in health sciences, engineering, and environmental fields. These target professionals, recent graduates, and organisations combining technical expertise and transferable skills that support VET. Programme design is tailored to sectoral needs, ensuring policy relevance and workforce adaptability.
From planning to implementation
CUT promotes skills development to help participants remain competitive in dynamic professional environments, reinforcing its role as a centre of excellence in lifelong learning. Through specialized training, the Centre bridges academic knowledge and practical skills, contributing to sustainable social advancement in Cyprus and beyond. It fosters joint programme development via internal collaborations and inter-university partnerships, particularly within the European University of Technology (EUt+) alliance, where CUT plays an active role. Programmes are delivered in flexible formats – online or in person - to meet diverse participant needs.
Joint micro-credential initiatives are planned with EUt+ partner universities. CUT also leads the EUt+ Alliance. Its Rector assumed the presidency of the Rectors’ Board in July 2025, coordinating projects such as Inno-EUt+ in innovation and entrepreneurship, and developing joint English-language undergraduate programmes. Information on upcoming programmes is shared through the Centre’s website, social media, and professional networks. Interested participants may register online. Where applicable, participation fees are set by the scientific coordinator and approved by the Centre’s Board.
The first continuing professional development (CPD) programme, Methods of Assessment of Language Disorders in Childhood, ran from 30 May to 14 June 2025, in collaboration with the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Over 30 professionals – speech and language therapists and special education teachers – participated, enhancing their theoretical and practical skills for early detection and assessment of learning needs in children.
The course was accredited by the Cyprus Council of Speech-Language Pathologists as a recognised CPD activity. Training combined theoretical instruction with practical application of modern assessment tools, aligned with professional standards and applicable in different education and training settings. By supporting upskilling of professionals in practice-oriented fields, the Centre position such initiatives within the broader framework of vocational education and training (VET), laying the ground for future specialized continuing education programmes.
Looking ahead

The Centre is preparing its next training series. In 2025, it will offer Data Collection and Processing with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), aimed at professionals and researchers integrating UAS technologies into their work. Two additional programmes are scheduled for spring 2026: Bio-Inspired Innovation and Design for Sustainable Engineering Solutions and Risk and Reliability in Health and Safety. These initiatives reinforce the Centre’s role in linking continuing education and training with evolving societal needs.
