The Education Committee is the Council working group that prepares the items for decision by EU Education ministers. Its work encompasses all levels of education and training, from preschool to higher education and adult education and training.

Some of the issues for consideration during the Swedish Presidency are professional development for teachers, integration of immigrants in the education and training systems and the interaction between education, research and innovation in the 'knowledge triangle'. Once every six months, the Committee usually holds one of its meetings in the country holding the Presidency of the EU.

The purpose of this is to give the members of the committee an opportunity to get to know the country in question and to socialise informally alongside the regular meeting. To this end, the meeting in Stockholm will be combined with social activities. Representatives from the Member States, the Council Secretariat and the Commission will participate
