On 30 June four EU agencies held a joint seminar at the European Parliament on the all too topical issue of youth employment. The agencies, Cedefop, Eurofound, ETF and EU-OSHA, each presented their work, which ranged across several related topics.

These included:

- flexicurity and quality of work
- tools for the transition from education to work
- safety at work for the young
- the particular challenges faced by the countries of the South Mediterranean.

Cedefop explained the contribution of guidance to career development and entrepreneurship – vitally important skills for people entering the job market – and outlined how common European tools such as Europass can help young people identify and promote their skills across Europe.

Panellists included EU Commissioner László Andor; Director General for Education and Culture Jan Truszczyński; MEP Pervenche Berès of the EP"s Employment Committee, which hosted the event, and Emilie Turunen, youngest Member of the European Parliament; representatives of the European Youth Forum and the social partners; and the employment ministers of Tunisia and Egypt.
