Cedefop organised its second webinar of the ‘Ambassadors tackling early leaving from VET’ network on the topic of young people not in education, employment, or training (NEETs). Inclusion and support for early leavers from education and training, as well as NEETs, lie at the heart of Cedefop’s work, and are fully aligned with Europe’s goal of reducing its NEET share to 9%.

Cedefop opened up the invitation to this webinar to other interested parties as well, who have already contributed to its online toolkits by sharing good practices and tools.

The presentations shared during the webinar, the summary note and the final agenda can be found in the Downloads section below.

Background

Cedefop’s network of Ambassadors tackling early leaving from VET was established in 2017. It has been regularly enriched with new members ever since, representing currently 23 European countries, and including EU-level experts. Our ambassadors bring together a range of diverse profiles, united in their ambition to prevent early leaving from VET at national, regional and local education levels in Europe. Some of the ambassadors work directly or indirectly with NEETs.

Ambassadors actively assist and disseminate Cedefop’s VET toolkit for tackling early leaving and the VET toolkit for empowering NEETs. They also enrich its resources by sharing good practices, tools, news, publications and statistics. They are regularly invited to contribute to online discussions, webinars and other related Cedefop events to develop the toolkits further.

Objectives & envisaged outcomes

The primary objective of this webinar was to provide a platform for Cedefop's network of ambassadors, as well as other external participants with a strong interest in the topic of NEETs, to engage with Cedefop’s team and promote peer learning.

This two-hour online event allowed ambassadors to familiarise themselves with the toolkits’ main functions; they were also introduced to two new intervention approaches on helping female NEETs (re)integrating into education, employment or training and on offering mentorship programmes to NEETs, which have recently become available on the VET toolkit for empowering NEETs, and learned from related inspiring good practices.

Participants were able to:

  • gain a deeper understanding of what the NEETs toolkits offer;
  • become familiar with the network of ambassadors;
  • share and discuss good practices;
  • contribute to the wider dissemination of the toolkits.
Structure and Content

The webinar featured presentations from Cedefop’s team as well as invited speakers from selected good practices.

During the webinar, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions. This interactive element allowed them to share their experiences, and raise and discuss topics of interest with their peers.

The agenda of the webinar can be found in the Downloads section below.

Next Steps

The discussions and insights generated during this webinar will support Cedefop’s efforts to ensure that its online VET toolkits remain a valuable resource for all stakeholders involved in promoting inclusion through and in VET.

Input from webinar participants is welcome and encouraged to guide the direction of future Cedefop work, and ensure that it reflects the needs and concerns of those working to tackle early leaving from VET and to support NEETs.
