From the 2026/27 school year, Luxembourg is introducing a new fast-track vocational route designed to strengthen the link between education and labour-market needs, known as ‘1re DAP’.

Accelerated vocational training for general secondary graduates

Presented on 26 January 2026 by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, 1re DAP marks a targeted response to skills shortages in key sectors of the Luxembourg economy. It was developed in cooperation with the Chamber of Employees, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Trades, and the Chamber of Agriculture, ensuring alignment with employer needs.

The 1re DAP pathway is aimed at both recent secondary school graduates and individuals who have already begun higher education and are seeking a more practice-oriented qualification. It offers an opportunity to deepen professional interests while rapidly acquiring job-ready skills.

Unlike the traditional three-year DAP programme, participants in the new one-year format are exempt from general education, as these modules are already covered by their secondary school leaving qualification. Training focuses entirely on technical and practical competences. It is supported by an intensive schedule of 35 to 40 hours per week, depending on the occupation. Work-based learning placements are also included, ensuring direct exposure to real working environments.

Seven initial occupations

From September 2026, the following training courses will be available under the 1re DAP scheme:

  • aesthetician;
  • carpenter;
  • cutting machine operator;
  • cook;
  • warehouse operator;
  • pastry, confectioner and ice cream maker;
  • garden and landscape designer.

The offer is expected to expand in the coming years in line with labour-market developments.

Equivalent qualification, enhanced pathways

Despite the shortened duration, the 1re DAP leads to the same diploma and professional recognition as the traditional DAP. Assessment standards remain identical, including the completion of a final integrated project. Graduates therefore acquire the same certified vocational competences and formal qualification.

The diploma provides direct access to employment while also enabling further progression. Graduates may continue to technician-level studies, enter higher technical education or pursue master craftsman’s certification in trades.

Strengthening skills and employability

Authorities underline that combining a general secondary qualification with a vocational diploma enhances graduates’ adaptability and employability. Employers benefit from candidates who combine theoretical maturity with hands-on skills and organisational competence.

With this reform, Luxembourg is reinforcing a flexible and responsive VET model designed to meet evolving economic needs while offering learners a faster route into skilled professions.
