Workers' mobility what role for the social partners

Social partners as representatives of employers and workers have a particular role to play in facilitating the mobility of the workforce in Europe, both at cross-industry and sectoral level.

In the context of the European Year of Workers' Mobility 2006, the European Commission is organising a one-day conference with employers organisations and trade unions in Brussels on 14 September.

The objectives of the conference are:

• to launch a debate among social partners on the findings of the European Year so far;
• to discuss mobility-related issues with social partners and other experts;
• to provide social partners with a platform to present innovative tools to facilitate mobility and to share experience;
• to reflect on the future contribution of social dialogue to workers' mobility.
