This report presents a comparative statistical analysis of skills development through continuing vocational training (CVT) in EU enterprises, using data from the Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS). The analysis focuses on data about the provision and financing of CVT, collected during the latest survey round, for 2020, and compares them with the data collected in 2015. It also devotes particular attention to the gap in CVT activity between small and large enterprises, with the engagement of small and medium-sized enterprises largely determining the overall level of CVT.
The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) is acknowledged to be one of the most reliable and comprehensive reference sources for data on CVT at the European level, thanks to its regularity, content, scale and high quality. It covers enterprises with 10 or more persons employed, operating across the majority of the private business economy. The latest CVTS data, covering all EU Member States, North Macedonia, Norway and Serbia for 2020, cover the period of the COVID-19 pandemic and the widespread associated lockdowns. Therefore, this report also identifies, to the extent possible, the pandemic’s effects on CVT provision in enterprises, reporting on trends and patterns in CVT provision during the current challenging context, characterised by uncertainty and external shocks.
