Cedefop hosted a meeting of the Governing Board of the Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees (Fagvorbundet) on 22 and 23 October.

The Governing Board members, besides their own meeting, had the opportunity to get acquainted with Cedefop’s work in the field of qualifications: which value they have for labour market, how they can be understood and recognised across countries and how this contributes to free movement of people.

Discussions touched upon qualifications frameworks, validation issues, credit systems, guidance, career transitions and entrepreneurship.

Norwegian Ambassador to Greece Sjur Larsen joined the meeting on the second day. He was welcomed by Cedefop’s Deputy Director Mara Brugia who pointed out that Norway, though not a member of the European Union, has been closely involved in Cedefop’s work over the last two decades.

The involvement covers work on recognition of formal, non-formal and informal learning, development of the European Qualifications Framework and shaping of national frameworks and, more recently, development of the ambitious ESCO project, which aims at classifying European skills, competences, qualifications and occupations in a homogeneous way.
