The Reativar (reactivate) measure, established by decree no 86/2015, aims to promote reintegration of long-term (more than 12 months) and very long-term unemployed, over 30 years of age through work placements lasting 6 months.

The measure was implemented in April 2015 and contributes to improving skills and retraining recipients. It offers traineeships to the unemployed, as a practical work based experience to help them reenter the labor market.

Candidates have to be unemployed people with a minimum age of 31 years, registered in the employment services for at least 12 months in the last three years, and have not made use of any other traineeship funded by the Employment and Professional Training Institute (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional, IEFP).

Training is developed by private entities and training conditions are agreed with trainees, according to the rules stipulated by the national employment service.

Trainees have an advisor designated by the entity responsible for technical and pedagogical monitoring during their traineeship and also for their final evaluation. At the end of the traineeship, trainees receive a participation certificate and an evaluation. Depending on the case, trainees may obtain a higher level of qualification according to the national qualifications framework or enter the process of getting their competences recognised, validated and certified.

During the traineeship, trainees are entitled to a monthly grant, meals or a meal subsidy and, in certain conditions, transportation or a transportation subsidy.
