The ESREA/SERFA research network on Cross-cultural Influences in the History of European Adult Education is pleased to announce the VIIth European research seminar which will be held at the Amphi Durkheim, the Sorbonne, Universit? Ren? Descartes, Paris 5, 28-30 June 2006.

Since 1991, this widely recognised research network has held 6 biennial research seminars in Austria (twice), Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Spain. Five volumes of edited papers have been published by Leeds University Press and a thematic series has been agreed with Peter Lang Verlag. Participants in these intensive research seminars work at universities in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

This intensive research seminar in 2006 will be restricted to 30 active participants who will present papers reporting on their original historical research. It will be a cross-cultural seminar in that presentations and discussion will take place in both the English and French languages without simultaneous translation. It is the intention, as is usual in ESREA/SEFRA meetings, to support each other in the development of shared understandings and exchanges between cultures. The seminar is intended as a shared learning space that enables the participants to challenge language barriers in a cross-cultural learning environment.
