In Dublin on 28 and 29 April 2004 the Irish Presidency hosted an informal meeting of Education Ministers and senior officials from 31 countries to discuss future directions for guidance and lifelong learning. The results of the career guidance policy reviews carried out by the OECD and by CEDEFOP and the ETF on behalf of the Commission, were presented and awareness was raised about the key role which guidance can play in promoting access to information, lifelong learning and employment as well as enhancing social inclusion and promoting personal decision-making and career management skills. Ministers shared examples of good practice and examined ways of addressing gaps in provision and rising to the challenges implicit in making lifelong guidance available for all. The meeting resulted in conclusions prepared by the Presidency which can be read in the attached document.
