In line with previous Presidencies, the joint conference which marks the end of the Cardiff youth event will be followed by a meeting of the EU Directors-General for Youth to be held 27-28 October 2005. The meeting will be focused on the response and follow-up to the Cardiff Declaration made by the young people, as well as other items on the programme of work on youth policy such as the implementation of the European Youth Pact. It will also provide an opportunity to look forward and plan the work of future Presidencies.
The meeting will include presentations on UK measures for combating youth unemployment and social exclusion with reference to the importance of informal and formal education and training. In particular, discussions will pick up on the themes of the youth event and explore how young peoples participation in local life contributes to their acquisition of skills and competencies relevant to the work place.
