Commission Communication on Multilingualism: an asset for Europe and a shared commitment

The main objective of this Communication is to raise awareness of the value and opportunities of the EU's linguistic diversity and encourage the removal of barriers to intercultural dialogue.

A key instrument in this respect is the Barcelona objective - communication in mother tongue plus two languages.

The proposal highlights that the most important practical contribution to promoting language skills comes through the Europass portal http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu, developed and run by Cedefop and available in 26 languages.
