At its meeting on 19 October, the Executive Committee of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) adopted its programme for 'Shaping a Strong and Social Europe', to be submitted next week to the Tripartite Social Summit and then Tony Blair's special Hampton Court Summit.

In its 'Shaping a Strong and Social Europe', the ETUC takes a strong lead in support of a single European Social Model, based on common values of solidarity, equality, social justice and internationalism, rejecting the current view among some  of the European Union.
