Championing the skills revolution

With this first edition of Cedefop Info – Evidence for informed policy-making, Cedefop launches a new series of information briefs for Members of the European Parliament to keep abreast of our ongoing work.

Cedefop is the EU reference centre for vocational education and training (VET), skills and qualifications. In 2022, as in previous years, our next-generation skills intelligence on labour market trends, research into VET systems and qualifications and hands-on knowledge of VET delivery in the EU Member States will continue to inform EU and national reskilling and upskilling policies.

Check out our new web portal! You can access all the evidence and intelligence produced by Cedefop through its thematic entry points. And have a look at our online tools and data visualisations, news, videos and podcasts.

Cedefop - a hub for cooperation, information and mutual learning

Cedefop provides information and advice to the Commission and EP Members, national governments, social partners and VET practitioners. It thus helps shape vocational education and training in Europe as something that, through the ‘can-do attitude’, becomes a tool for resilience and an engine of innovation.

This was the centrepiece of Cedefop Executive Director Jürgen Siebel’s exchange of views with members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs on 1 February.

Since 2021, the first year of the new VET policy cycle, Cedefop has monitored the implementation of the Council’s VET Recommendation and the Osnabrück Declaration in cooperation with the European Training Foundation (ETF) and its national network partners.

Its work is closely aligned with the European institution and EU Presidency agendas on education and training. Pooling expertise for more effective services, Cedefop has been cooperating for many years with its sister agencies, the ETF and Eurofound. We collaborate with Eurostat on skills intelligence and have joined forces with international organisations such as the ILO, the OECD and UNESCO on various subjects. Finally, close cooperation with ReferNet and other thematic networks, with researchers, experts and practitioners reinforces the relevance of our work.

In 2021, Cedefop was cited in nearly 200 EU policy documents and contributed to around 140 events informing VET policy and practice. It registered more than half a million downloads of its publications.
