Every year, the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) collects and publishes statistics on mobility of vocational education and training (VET) learners and staff.

In 2022, VET international mobility restarted after the COVID-19 pandemic but has not yet reached the pre-pandemic level of 2019. A total of 2 708 Finnish VET learners and 2 570 VET teachers or other personnel went for a period abroad related to their training or work.

From all 16- to 25-year-olds enrolled in VET in 2022, 6.2% completed a mobility period abroad and 4.3% came to Finland (compared to 10.3 and 7.3% in 2019). Around 4 out of 5 mobility activities were supported by Erasmus+.

The Finnish VET mobility has been Europe-oriented for as long as mobility statistics have been collected. Also in 2022, the top 10 mobility destinations were in Europe. The most popular destination country for Finnish VET learners remains Spain.

Since 2021, actors accredited in the Erasmus+ programme can direct a maximum of 20% of their mobility funding to mobility outside Europe. In 2022, global mobility started slower than the European mobility.
