Point 4. Looking beyond 2010 developing the "Education and Training 2010" work programme (exchange of views)
The Member States work together with the European Commission in education and training within a framework known as the "Education and Training 2010 Work Programme". As the end of the decade approaches, the Commission is encouraging the Member States to consider the next steps, and takes the view that demography and the development of the knowledge society will remain main drivers for reform beyond 2010. Lifelong learning will remain key: Europe will continue to require a broad knowledge base and continuous updating of citizens' knowledge, skills and competences.
