The Ministry of Education and Research has assigned the directorate to conduct a review of upper secondary VET. The aim is to improve quality and attractiveness by strengthening the link between VET and skill needs of the labour market.
Evaluations and statistics show that some upper secondary VET qualifications lack relevance to the labour market. Thus, labour market needs and skill demands will be decisive in the structure of upper secondary VET programmes.
A broad range of stakeholders from employee and employer organisations, school owners, VET experts and professionals will conduct the review in collaboration with the directorate. The review will also evaluate and suggest new ways to maintain and update VET programmes’ structures continuously, to avoid such comprehensive reviews in future.
The Directorate of Education and Training is now launching its plans, and the review will be a high priority.
