Description

This site collects together all the key outputs and insights from the Stay Tuned project, an URBACT Implementation Network of nine European cities, specifically looking at how to implement strategies that tackle Early Leaving from Education and Training (ELET – also known as Early School Leaving).

The project had a focus on transnational exchange and learning between cities. This helped the network partners understand how implementation works and how we can best implement our policies and action plans to create lasting and positive change in our cities.

During the project, the city partners all implemented their own local strategies and action plans to tackle ELET in their local contexts. The network also explored the concept and nature of “implementation”, looking at what it means, how it works in reality and what they could do to improve local implementation practice.

A story about working with and changing local conditions, gradually shifting mindsets and expectations through sustained open working and leadership.

Aveiro’s story is one of joint delivery - a virtual project team, working closely together to help young people stay in education.

Barcelona uses data to intervene as early as possible, creating a systematic approach for proactively engaging students.

Berlin initiated a ‘Jugendberufsagentur’ (youth employment agency), embedded new methods that make this agency more effective creating job perspectives for young people who leave school early.

Ghent’s story is one of facilitating change in school contexts, to tackle the risk factors that cause early school leaving in a more effective way. These ‘lessons learned’ are now implemented in a new project, open to all secondary schools in Ghent.

Ghent was lead partner of Stay Tuned

The team from Gothenburg, Sweden have launched a plan to tackle school absenteeism more effectively and at a very early stage. Gothenburg’s story is one of combining the power of big data with a shift in mindset to move from a reactive to a proactive approach.

Nantes’ story is one of a co-creative process. Working collaboratively helped the group to respond to changes, work in new ways and gain new perspectives on their own work and role in the implementation process.

Sofia’s comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities offers a route to continued education and training by responding to the interests and needs of students who are at risk of dropping out.

The project team of Tallinn, Estonia, aimed to tackle a lack of knowledge, skills and resources at schools for the support of students with special educational needs.
