Description

Under the Digital Decade commitment, the European Union aims for 80% of the population aged 16-74 to have at least basic digital skills by 2030. Not least highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are a number of deficiencies to improve the digital readiness of education and training systems in terms of resilience, accessibility, high-quality provision and inclusiveness. The Recommendation for key enabling factors focuses on how to make education and training systems fit for the digital age. It provides guidelines for how to prepare people to use technology creatively, safely and responsibly. Among other measures, the recommendation calls on Member States to:

  • Invest in digital infrastructure for education and training;
  • Provide digital training of teachers and staff; and,

  • Monitor and evaluate policies put in place and their impact.
