In June 2024, the kick-off event of project Strong sectoral expert councils – strong vocational education (SEC_pLus) took place in Riga.
The project was created within the framework of the 2023 Memorandum of cooperation in vocational education and training (VET) between the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, with joint funding.
The project objective is to strengthen the capacity of Latvia's sectorial expert councils to become a more effective tool for the collaboration of economic and social partners for strong and development-oriented VET.
Three sectors that are highly relevant to the Latvian economy and rooted in Latvian historical traditions are covered by the project: agriculture, forestry and the related machine building. They were selected in consultation with the Latvian and German education ministries.
The project activities include reviewing the existing cooperation model between VET providers and industries, thus improving the attractiveness of VET programmes and prestige of the related qualifications. They are implemented by a consortium comprising the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce, German Chamber of Crafts, the German Crafts Continuing Education Centre and their Latvian counterparts.
