In August 2024, the Ministry of Education and Science approved a new List of professions for vocational education and training (LPVET) under Art. 6 of the updated vocational education and training (VET) Act. The LPVET is an open system and professions may be added or removed based on proposals from the relevant ministries, and nationally representated bodies of employers and trade-union organisations. The list can be updated every 6 months.The new LPVET is part of the large-scale project ‘Modernisation of vocational education and training’ and can be regarded as the first stage of its implementation. Under the project, the so-called sector skills councils (SSCs) for different economic sectors were launched and their first task was to develop a new LPVET from November 2023 to May 2024.

The draft version of the new LPVET was discussed within the expert commissions of the National Agency for Vocational Education and Training (NAVET) and became publicly available in July 2024. After mandatory public consultations with all interested parties, in August 2024 the Ministry of Education and Science approved the new LPVET, which contains a total of 193 professions, 40 of which are in the digital and green sectors. The professions  are accompanied with work activities related to digitalisation and sustainable development in various areas, such as:

  • integration of digital technologies;
  • intelligent systems;
  • data analysis;
  • design of digital and print media;
  • robotics;
  • green technologies, circular economy and sustainable development;
  • sustainable fashion;
  • sustainable agriculture and plant protection, etc.

Many of the professions included in the LPVET have new, updated names so that the list reflects the dynamics in the labour market, with an eye on the skills of the future.
VET for the professions included in the new list will be provided in two stages:

  • from the academic year 2026/27 for students admitted to the VIII grade in vocational high schools;
  • from January 2026 for learners above 16 in centres for vocational training of adults licensed by NAVET.

The next step is the preparation of a comparison table between the current and the new LPVET. It will match the professions/degrees included in the new LPVET with the specialties and professions to the current LPVET.The current LPVET will remain in force until 2026.
