Teaching basic skills: Mathematics

The European Education and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission has published a new set of thematic guides for teaching basic skills. These guides support the European Commission’s Basic Skills Action Plan, and aim to boost teaching and learning, support educators and enable supportive environments.

According to the guide for teaching mathematics, mathematical skills foster problem-solving and critical thinking, and boost career prospects. Numerical proficiency is also highly sought after in a technology-driven world.

The guide offers insights on key practices and whole-school approaches to support learners and build a strong numeracy foundation for all.
