Description
This study on the NEET phenomenon in Italy found that a significant proportion of young people experience a prolonged period of being not in employment, education or training (NEET). This research revealed that nearly 40% of Italian youths face this situation for at least a year, with some experiencing persistent NEET status. The study identified that women, particularly those in southern Italy, are disproportionately affected, and that education serves as a protective factor, although this effect is less pronounced for women. The findings suggest that unemployment, rather than inactivity, is the primary driver of the NEET phenomenon in Italy, with family responsibilities playing a significant role in women's NEET status. To address this issue, the study recommends policies that promote education and training opportunities, as well as support for work-life balance.
