Public administration and defence
The public administration and defence sector encompasses governmental activities normally carried out by a country’s public administration / civil service. This includes the enactment and judicial interpretation of laws and their pursuant regulation, as well as the administration of programmes based on them, legislative activities, taxation, national defence, public order and safety, immigration services, foreign affairs and the administration of government programmes. In practice, this includes:
- the administration of the State and the economic and social policy of the community (this includes general administration such as executive, legislative, financial administration etc. at all levels of government);
- the provision of services to the community as a whole (such as the administration and operation of the ministry of foreign affairs and diplomatic and consular missions stationed abroad, defence activities, judicial activities, and public order and safety activities including police and fire services); and
- compulsory social security activities (including the administration of government-provided social security programmes).
