Starting on 1 September 2010, Pascaline Descy will be managing a staff of 17 experts and 8 assistants in Research and Policy Analysis at Cedefop.
With a degree in Education Sciences from the University of Liege in Belgium, Pascaline Descy came to Cedefop in 1997 to work on Key Data on Education and Training, a series run by Cedefop in tandem with Eurostat and the Commission. Since 1998, she has co-managed and authored Cedefop’s Research Report with Manfred Tessaring. In recent years, her research interests focused on the economic and social benefits to education, training and skills. She also contributed to building Cedefop’s internal performance management system.
“What I wish to accomplish in the next four years”, says Descy, “is to strengthen Cedefop’s recognition as a source for evidence-based policy making in education and training in Europe, and to bolster its reputation in the scientific community. In line with Cedefop’s strategic vision, I believe we should develop an even stronger applied research capacity in house, to cover key policy questions and challenges for Europe. I also look forward to implementing a more integrated approach to identifying current and future skill needs and to pursue Cedefop’s reviews and analyses of VET policies and systems. ”
