A vocational education and training (VET) school can be a place of cross-fertilisation of interests and skills by bringing together learners from different areas, as shown by the best-video winning entry of the 2021 #CedefopPhotoAward competition.

The winners, the NewAgeSchool team, from Niepubliczne Technikum im. gen. W. Andersa w Opatowie in Poland, were presented their awards through video link during the opening of the #CedefopPhotoAward exhibition at the Thessaloniki Cinema Museum. The exhibition showcases the winning and runner-up contributions in the best video and photostory categories.

Cedefop Executive Director Jürgen Siebel expressed his delight at the first hybrid event in a long time to mark the 6th year of the #CedefopPhotoAward, which ‘brings together those that Cedefop has been working for, European learners of all ages, and showcases their strengths, their creativity, their passion, and how they put all that to work for the future through VET’.

Niepubliczne Technikum’s teacher Hubert Grześkiewicz spoke of how the school endeavours to provide more than conventional VET to its students, trying to enable them to familiarise themselves with a large array of knowledge and turn it into skills.

The ‘New Age School’ team’s winning entry brought together IT and fashion stylist students and was shot by members of the school's photographic club. Mr Grześkiewicz spoke of how an invisible bridge was created allowing them to work together and exchange ideas and knowledge, learn from each other and create a bond.

Welcoming the winners on behalf of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the Museum’s Maria Papasotiri said that the 2021 #CedefopPhotoAward themes, green or digital skills, are very much in line with the Museum’s aspiration to get young people involved with digital media.

In total, 80 teams of vocational education and training (VET) learners from 13 European countries took part in this sixth edition of the #CedefopPhotoAward. The teams consisted of 287 VET learners and 63 teachers/trainers, representing 62 learning providers.
