International Conference on Distance Education

The importance of eLearning, and Distance and Open Education has been recognised by the Omani educational institutions. This leads to the adoption of new initiatives by some universities and colleges that have begun to use these distance educational approaches within their own programmes. Standards and regulations concerning these issues have been recently approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. The Sultanate was one of the first Arab countries to establish an Academic Accreditation Board, as well as having membership in a number of international organisations for Quality Assurance.

Thus it is within this context that the International Conference on Distance Education (ICODE 2006) will be held. It aims to provide an academic platform for sharing ideas, experiences and research relevant to the fields of eLearning, and Open and Distance Education. Everyone from Oman, the Gulf and beyond is warmly welcomed to participate in this conference as the organisers seek to make ICODE a more significant part of Higher Education in Oman.
