The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture will organise the conference "One Step Up in later life: learning for active ageing and intergenerational solidarity" on November 19-21 in Brussels to mark the European Year 2012. The conference will gather around 260 participants and will focus on developing ideas and orientations for European cooperation in the field of adult learning, in particular on learning as a stimulus for active ageing and on intergenerational learning.

In this event, Cedefop is organising the one-day workshop ‘Sustaining employability through learning’ on 20th of November. This workshop will focus on two interrelated themes:

  • Benefits of investing in ageing workers: Benefits of investing in an ageing workforce (for ageing workers themselves and their employers) and factors that inhibit or encourage investment in learning (obstacles such as stereotypes on age and behaviour of employers and public policies encouraging replacement, and factors encouraging learning such as new age-aware forms of work organisation).
  • Guidance and counselling supporting investment in learning: The role that guidance and counselling can play in stimulating learning (guidance needs of ageing workers, changing patterns, emerging models and good practices) and preparing them for career change.
