Traditional craft trades such as construction and engineering
To incentivise companies to recruit female apprentices in traditional craft trades such as construction and engineering
Department for Education and Skills is responsible for the overall management, monitoring and evaluation of the instrument. SOLAS is in charge of day-to-day operation.
Employers who have recruited a female apprentice on an approved craft apprenticeship programme.
The instrument only supports apprenticeship. It applies to EQF 4-6 levels.
State
The maximum amount that a company may receive: EUR 2,667 in total. It is a bursary payment that is paid to employers towards the wages of the apprentices. It is broken down into EUR 95.23 per week for 28 weeks. The bursary is paid in 2 instalments. The first is paid after phase 1 of the on-the-job training. It is calculated on the number of weeks in that phase, at EUR 95.23 per week. The second instalment is paid at the end of phase 3, on-the-job training, when the apprentice has completed the balance of the 28 weeks.
Funds are disbursed to all eligible applicants on the basis of the legal entitlement. The employer must apply for the bursary payment from their local Education and Training Board and they must provide documentary proof that they have employed a female apprentice.
Apprentice remuneration
In 2016, the public funding amounted to EUR 30,000 and in 2015, it amounted to EUR 16,000 (estimates based on official datasets). No EU funds involved.
In 2016 and 2015, 11 and 6 companies benefited respectively.
