Description

This article delves into the transition process for youths with disabilities in Austria from compulsory education to higher levels or vocational paths. It highlights several challenges, such as complex jurisdictions, varying power dynamics among stakeholders, overloaded coaches, a lack of incentives for youths to enter the primary labour market, and insufficient cooperation with guardians. Funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), research projects have been initiated to identify successful transition strategies and obstacles. The methodology included group discussions over the course of three years, involving professionals, parents, and youths. The findings emphasise that continuous cooperation among transition professionals, parents, and youths is essential for successful transitions.
