collective bargaining

All negotiations between trade unions and employers for determining working conditions and terms of employment, including issues related to pay and working time, and for regulating relations between employers and workers.

Comment

Collective bargaining has several dimensions:

  • coverage which refers to the percentage of workers directly affected by agreements;
  • level that bargaining occurs at;
  • scope, or range of topics encompassed by bargaining;
  • depth: the extent to which agreements are jointly implemented and reviewed.
