- Virtual learning can be used in various contexts:
- computer-based: use of educational software installed locally;
- internet-based: use of educational software installed on a remote server;
- remote instruction: activity provided online by a teacher or trainer, interacting with learners through video, forums, e-mail and instant messaging;
- blended learning: combination of presential and remote instruction;
- facilitated virtual learning: the teacher or trainer provides learners with tutoring or additional supervision;
- it can take place in real-time with a teacher or trainer leading a class on a virtual conference platform (synchronous learning) or in the context of a self-learning action that includes student/teacher communication (asynchronous learning);
- this term is close to, but not synonymous with: distance learning.
