Eligible group(s)

All apprentices

Education and training eligible

The instrument supports apprenticeship and other types of education and training. It applies to EQF 3-4 levels.

Source of financing and collection mechanism

State

Financing formula and allocation mechanisms

The maximum amount that an apprentice may receive per year is EUR 3,827.72. Apprentices are asked to register for the maintenance grant each year and to present evidence that they are still enrolled in the programme (those who drop out stop receiving the grant).

The funds are disbursed to all eligible applicants on the basis of the legal entitlement. The grant is transferred to learner's bank account.

Eligible costs

Various costs. Apprentices may use the grant (allowance) as they wish.

Volumes of funding

In academic year 2015/2016, the public funding amounted to EUR 1,263,261.
No EU funding involved.

Beneficiaries/take up

In academic year 2015/2016, 983 apprentices benefited from the grant (i.e. all eligible apprentices)

Monitoring/evaluation reports available

The main monitoring that is involved is that of ensuring that any apprentices who drop out stop receiving the maintenance grant.

Recent or planned changes

The structure of apprenticeship was changed but not the rates of payments. At the time of this research, new legislation was open for consultation and was to be drafted. It would change the payment mechanism for apprentices/regulate rates of payment.
