Valuing diversity: guidance for labour market integration of migrants 20/10/2014
Arguing for guidance to ease the integration of third country immigrants into the European labour market may seem untimely given today’s high youth unemployment, but anticipating future developments and informing policy-makers are one of Cedefop’s main tasks.
Adult skills and VET: Further findings from the OECD Survey of Adult Skills 14/10/2014
Adults with upper-secondary VET qualifications generally have lower levels of literacy and numeracy proficiency than people with general upper-secondary education, according to the OECD Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC). This is not surprising. The survey measures skills that general education programmes emphasise more than VET programmes, but it does not measure VET specific skills. Yet, PIAAC’s findings signal the importance of fostering information-processing skills, such as literacy and numeracy, to have more adaptable VET graduates in the labour market.

Cedefop discusses results of OECD survey on adult skills – Thessaloniki is the host 02/12/2013
Countries, employers and individuals need a clear idea of how labour markets and economies are changing and how people are meeting the demand for skills in the 21st century. People with low skills face a greater risk of economic disadvantage. They are more likely to be unemployed and suffer from poor health. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) survey of adult skills (PIAAC) aims to provide some insights into how skills are being developed and used in 24 countries. The first findings of the survey were published in October 2013. They show that the young are more literate, but proficiency in literacy peaks at around 30 years of age.
