Τeaching basic skills: Literacy

Τhe European Education and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission has published a new set of thematic guides for teaching basic skills. These guides support the European Commission’s Basic Skills Action Plan, and aim to boost teaching and learning, support educators and enable supportive environments.

According to the guide for teaching literacy, all teachers are teachers of reading, and better reading and writing skills lead to overall improvement across subjects. The guide offers insights on key practices and whole-school approaches to support struggling readers and build a solid culture of literacy.
