After graduating in business management, Roger worked in the private sector dealing with business development and strategy before undertaking a post graduate programme in vocational counselling in addition to a further education teaching certificate. Working with the National Council for Vocational Qualifications (NCVQ) he supported the development of national qualifications across sectors - using functional analysis as the key methodological approach to occupational standards -and in particular carried out research on the application of Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) across the UK. Moving into HE, he lectured in business strategy and took on responsibilities for HE-Business development. Establishing his own consultancy in 1991, whose focus was on organisational and individual development, he was part of a team to design the international quality standard Investors in People as well as becoming a competence centre to deliver a range of qualifications in particular within Leadership and Management levels 2-8, for which he is a, trainer, assessor and validator. His passion for lifelong and work based learning, pathways for academic and vocational learning and competence recognition led to become a member of the UK ECVET Expert team as well as being involved in a number of EU wide projects dealing with qualifications design and QA. He has recently worked in Estonia and Croatia on projects dealing with occupational standards design and delivery alongside establishing systems for assessment, validation and recognition of competences. |
