Process that aims to promote the sharing of common values, common goals among individuals within a society or a social group.
Comment
- The term social integration refers to both the process and its result;
- the integration process takes place:
- at society (or at social group) level; it makes it possible to go beyond the diversity of individuals by establishing common values and goals;
- at individual level within the social group which determines the social rules and values to be adopted; it allows the ‘integrated’ individual to establish sustainable social relations;
- this term is close to, but not synonymous with: social inclusion.
