European qualifications framework for lifelong learning (EQF) – Level 6

Sixth level of the European reference tool for the description and comparison of qualifications developed at national, international or sectoral level. The learning outcomes relevant to EQF level 6 are:

  • knowledge: advanced knowledge of a field of work or study, involving a critical understanding of theories and principles;
  • skills: advanced skills, demonstrating mastery and innovation, required to solve complex and unpredictable problems in a specialised field of work or study;
  • responsibility and autonomy:
    • manage complex technical or professional activities or projects, taking responsibility for decision-making in unpredictable work or study contexts;
    • take responsibility for managing professional development of individuals and groups.

  • United Kingdom:
    • England and Northern Ireland: Technical/vocational qualifications level 6;
    • Scotland: Professional development award, Honours degree, Graduate certificate, Graduate apprenticeship, Professional apprenticeship, Bachelor/ordinary degree, Graduate diploma, Technical apprenticeship (SVQ);
    • Wales: Bachelor honours degrees, Vocational qualifications, Professional certificate in education, apprenticeships;
  • Ireland: Honours bachelor degree, Higher diploma, Professional award, Ordinary bachelor degree, Professional award.
