Individuals may apply for the grant to finance their learning/training if they are not undertaking any secondary, further, or higher education, do not have a degree or above, and have an income of GBP 22 000 (approx. EUR 26 133) a year or less or are on benefits. The eligible activities include education and training delivered by 460 approved learning providers. The maximum funding individual may receive amounts to GBP 200 (approx. EUR 238). The same applicant can re-use the grant once in each calendar year.

- Those not conducting any secondary/further or higher education, hold a degree or above, are in training through the employability fund or Modern Apprenticeships or the Community Jobs Scotland programme and have an income of higher than GBP 22 000 (approx. EUR 26 133) a year. Eligibility is based on applicants being: - Aged 16 or over; - Not in education or involved in any other SDS funded programme; - Unemployed and looking to get back into work; - Employed, earning less than GBP 22 000 (approx. EUR 26 133) per year and looking to progress in or change job; - Resident in Scotland.

2017 - instrument established. Individual Learning Accounts changed to Individual Training Accounts. The ITA supported courses result in an industry recognised qualification (not the case for ILAs). The ITA is now delivered by Skills Development Scotland.
