Short description

Employees can apply for this State-funded grant to finance their costs for education and training. The eligible education and training activities include all kinds of university studies. A lump-sum allowance is granted up to a maximum amount of EUR 670 per month plus a book allowance of EUR 80.

Objective(s) and target(s)

To increase permeability between vocational and academic education and offer the opportunity for further professional development. The program is aimed primarily at those who have gained their higher education entrance qualification without school, but through several years of experience, recognition of prior learning.

SBB Foundation has been commissioned and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the selection of scholarship recipients and assisting them during their studies.

Financing formula and allocation mechanisms

Eligible persons receive monthly scholarship of EUR 670 plus EUR 80 book allowance. In addition, a care package for children under 10 years (EUR 113 for the first child, EUR 85 for each additional) is granted. Support is provided independently of earnings. Students in extra-occupational training receive EUR 2 000 per year.

The scholarship grant is initially for 1 year and may be extended upon proof of study progress by the end of the normal period for a further year. Study progress is documented regularly via a performance overview.

Money is transferred directly to individual before training takes place.
