- Initial education and training can be carried out at any level (secondary, post-secondary or tertiary) in general or vocational education pathways (full-time school-based, alternance training or apprenticeship); they usually lead to certification;
- education and training undertaken after entry into working life (such as retraining) may also be carried out in the initial education and training system.
