The overall situation as regards validation of non-formal and informal learning in Europe in 2010 is presented in the following synthesis report. An executive summary of this report is also available. Country studies The 2010 update of the European Inventory covers developments in 32 countries: List of countries covered by the European inventory Austria Greece Norway Belgium - Vlaandern - Wallonie Hungary Poland Bulgaria Iceland Portugal Cyprus Liechtenstein Romania Czech Republic Lithuania Slovakia Denmark Luxembourg Slovenia Estonia Ireland Spain Finland Italy Sweden France Latvia Netherlands Germany Malta United Kingdom - England, Wales and Northern Ireland - Scotland Turkey Croatia The 32 countries are described in 34 reports. Belgium is covered by separate reports for Flandern and Wallonia; UK by separate reports for England/Wales/Northern Ireland and Scotland. For the 2010 update of the inventory, the scope of the country reports have widened considerably compared to previous versions. The aim has been to look at validation from different angles and a common thematic structure is used throughout the 34 reports. This structure mirrors the focus of the European Guidelines on validation. The case studies A total of 10 case studies have been prepared for the 2010 update of the inventory. These studies aim to go more in depth on particular solutions chosen in countries, sectors or enterprises. The increased detail provided by these studies is helpful for validation practitioners in different countries as they provide evidence of concrete solutions to concrete challenges. While not always directly transferable, the case studies will be able to inform and inspire future developments. The following case studies are available: Recognition for Professionalisation in the adult learning sector – Academy of Continuing Education (wba), Austria From Mass Adult VET towards Tailor-Made VET – the Specialist Qualification in Competence-based Qualifications, Finland Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania The Philips Vocational qualifications programme, The Netherlands Validation of prior learning: a stepping stone for the reintegration of inmates into society, Norway Validation of prior learning in the construction sector Recognition of prior experiential learning in Higher Education in Portugal L@EGAL 2 – European Investment in the future of Roma people in Romania SSSC Case Study: RPL as a stepping-stone to qualifications Youthpass – Recognising the non-formal learning of young people in Europe Thematic studies 4 thematic studies have been developed for the 201 version of the Inventory. These thematic studies address issue to consider of particular importance for the time being, notably Validation in higher education Validation methodologies The costs and benefits of validation Validation and its target groups In addition to this Cedefop is currently carrying out an extensive study on validation in enterprises. Material from this study will be made available during 2011 and added to the Inventory.
