Professor Michael F D Young BA, BSc, MA, PhD(Hon Caus), FCGLI

Michael Young is Emeritus Professor of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. He is a sociologist who previously taught science in secondary schools in London.  His most recent book Bringing Knowledge Back In (Routledge 2007) won second Prize as Education Book of the Year in the UK in 2009.  His other recent books include: 

•    Knowledge, Curriculum and Qualifications for South African Further Education(with Jeanne Gamble) HSRC Press (2006)and The Curriculum of the Future (Falmer Press  1998).

Michael Young’s research interests concerned with knowledge. Curriculum and qualifications and vocational and professional education. He was recently led Research Adviser to the ILO on their Project on implementing NQFs in Developing countries. He has undertaken research and consultancy for a range of international organizations and in various countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. He was keynote speaker at the ECER Conference in Vienna (2009). His current research (funded by the British Academy) is on the future of professional education.
