 Alexis Kokkos was born in 1950 in Athens. He has bachelor degree in Law (University of Athens) and master degree in Sociology of Education (Paris VIII). He has been Member of the founding scientific team of the institution of Popular Education in Greece (1981-1987), Leader of the development of the Institute for Continuing Education and Training / IDEKE (Chairman, 1995-1997) and the foundation of the Hellenic Open University (member of the founding scientific team, 1997-2001). He has also been Scientific responsible of the National System of Training and Certification of Trainers assigned by the National Accreditation Centre for Continuing Vocational Training. He is now Dean and Professor of Adult Education in School of Humanities in Hellenic Open University and Chairman of Hellenic Adult Education Association. He has written 11 books on Adult Education among which: Adult Education: Exploring the field. Athens: Metechmio.2005 and Adult Education: International Approaches and Greek Trajectories (ed. A. Kokkos, D. Vergidis). Athens: Metechmio. 2010. He has written many articles on Adult Education which have been published, among others, in the following journals: Convergence, Agora,Self-Directed Learning, Adult Education, Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Transformative Learning.
