Amanda_WatkinsDr. Amanda Watkins is Assistant Director-Project Implementation, in the European Agency for Development in Special Needs Education in Denmark.

Her professional experience as an educator has been varied and extensive. Throughout all of her professional roles, there has been a developing interest in the nature of learning, its determining influence upon the work of teachers and their own professional learning. Initially, working with children and adolescents, her work and personal interests have led to various types of work with adult learners’ professional development. Her main expertise falls into policy and legal frameworks for inclusive and special needs education; international comparative approaches to inclusive and special needs education; as well as post compulsory provision for learners with special needs.

In her current position, she is responsible for the co-ordination of the Agency project implementation procedures and the information dissemination procedures. She is managing a number of on-going projects including Teacher Education of Inclusion and Higher Education Accessibility Guide and she co-ordinates the EC grant funded projects.

Dr. Amanda Watkins has a PhD in education; Masters of Arts in education; Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education; and a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Special Education. She has been awarded with the Myriam Van Acker inaugural award for contributions to supporting students with disability in Higher Education, July 2004. She is editor of two scientific journals: Educational Studies Journal and Special Needs Abstract Journal, and guest editor of the Journal of Research in Comparative and International Education. Dr. Amanda Watkins is a member of NASEN (National Association of Special Needs Education).
